THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED schnitz Restaurant Review:
Schnitzel lovers, rejoice! schnitz has happily made the transition from Smorgasburg in Brooklyn to a full-time, full-menu shop in the East Village. This is a place where you’ll enjoy the eats as much as the atmosphere. Friendly staff will happily explain the variations of sandwiches, which range from chicken to pork or shrimp, and also include a vegetarian version made of butternut squash and corn. Pounded, breaded and fried cutlets are served on pretzel bread and dressed with a variety of slaws, pickled vegetables and mayos. Non-sandwich versions come in bowls or as a schnitz and pecan waffle combo. As important as the main ingredient are the sides; together with a beverage, they create schnitz’s popular meals. Especially satisfying are the roasted head of cauliflower simply drizzled with cumin-seed oil and Maldon sea salt, and the fried Brussels sprouts topped with a caramelized onion-Dijon glaze and sprinkled with Old Bay. Order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. Portions are generous.
