| The "S. I." in the logo of this sophisticated restaurant and lounge stands for Scholar’s Inn and "Sexy & Intimate." In the heart of Massachusetts Avenue’s art and theater district, this comes in the form of high-backed chairs and flowing drapes that afford privacy in both the lounge and upstairs dining rooms. But the communal table is the place to see and be seen, for those so inclined. Adding to the allure, glass-topped tables are up-lit with colored lights. Begin with the bruschetta trio on house-made artisan bread with toppings like cannellini beans and prosciutto and a mushroom mélange. The beet salad with asparagus tips, Gorgonzola and seasoned walnuts is quickly becoming a signature dish, and makes a satisfying meal when teamed with a flatbread. Entrées utilize local ingredients---try the Maple Farms pork loin with a sherry-chorizo compote and Indiana duck breast with smoked Gouda polenta and a green chile-peach glaze. The specialty drinks are prepared with equal skill. |
