Scruffy Murphy's Irish Pub & Eatery Restaurant Review:

Breda Gleeson found her way from Dublin and Cork, Ireland, to Columbus, Georgia via Orlando, Florida, where she also owned a Scruffy Murphy's, and renovated a historic space to craft an authentic Irish pub. Old brick walls and well-worn plank floors contribute to the classic atmosphere. High ceilings mean the noise level is fairly robust, but the quality of the food makes up for it. The Scotch egg comes on a drizzle of mustard sauce and is served hot, so you may want to let it cool down a bit before enjoying it as room temperature is best for this dish. The house signature item is the fish 'n' chips, and the kitchen makes its own tartar sauce because Gleeson can't abide the sweet American version. "It has no cornichons," she says. This one does. There's enough on that plate and with the four-sausage bangers 'n' mash as well for two people or to take some home. Thick slices of sautéed onion adorn a large pile of mashed spuds and very tasty fat sausages that are made by Patak, an Atlanta-area sausage specialist. Brews and whiskies comprise the quaffs chiefly, along with such post-dinner delights as Baileys Irish Cream. There are no desserts, but the coffee, from a local roaster, is quite good. The place is restricted to patrons who are over 21.
