Seed Restaurant Review: "Health food" restaurants are few and far between in New Orleans, and in order to attract the masses, such venues must offer just a few not-so-healthy attractions. And that’s the case at Seed, located steps from busy St. Charles Avenue. The menu is conspicuously devoid of meat, but the preparations may make you forget all about your carnivorous tendencies. The barbecue sandwich is made with high protein seitan, contrived from high protein gluten. Spaghetti with puttanesca sauce is all vegetable based. Po’ boys are made with either fried eggplant or fried tofu. Still, there are highly indulgent desserts, such as a chocolate parfait, an apple crumble with caramel whiskey sauce and even house-made cakes. Only about a half dozen wines are offered, but there is a full bar. True to its concept, a menu of smoothies (try the triple chocolate avocado) and blended juices is available.
