Shalimar Restaurant Review: Shalimar left its original downtown Albany site to do business in suburban locations: Clifton Park, Delmar and Rotterdam. Much of the restaurant’s charm is its reasonable pricing for consistent, quality food. You can go beyond the typical Indian dishes with good korma and palak preparations, salmon cooked in the tandoor oven and a dozen different tandoori breads. The mulligatawny soup is a treat. We also recommend vegetarian dishes including the baingan bharta (skinless eggplant cooked with green peas) and malai kofta (vegetable spheres made of carrots, potatoes, cheese and cashews). All dishes are made without MSG or gluten, and a lunch buffet is available weekdays. Desserts include baklava and sweet cheese balls.
