| As a scaled-down version of its Shanghai Garden cousins in Seattle’s International District and Issaquah, Shanghai Café brings the flavors of authentic Chinese food to Bellevue. Located in a modest strip mall, its bright pink walls feature little decoration besides the cold-case displaying Northern Chinese-style vegetarian appetizers. The kitchen is in the capable hands of Hua Te Su’s brother, chef-owner Ping-Fu Su. Like the Su family’s other restaurants, the menu features barley green pot stickers and classic hand-shaved noodles. Stir-fries include chicken, egg, squid, and whole prawns. If you like salt, choose a dish with the black bean sauce. Other favorites include the sliced fish with yellow leeks. Brown rice is available, the tea is included and free-flowing, and the prices won’t dent the wallet. |
