| Barebones locals' favorite features cheap dim sum, soups, clay pots, noodles and main courses ranging from soy braised fish tail to broccoli beef. The biggest draw are the namesake Shanghai dumplings---tender pasta purses filled with seasoned ground pork and a shot of hot broth. We like the soup dumplings but we love the lion's head meatballs casserole, consisting of three fluffy orange-sized meatballs filled with pork, garlic, green onions and crunchy water chestnuts served in a clay pot. The enormous meatballs, along with Chinese cabbage and vermicelli noodles, swim in a light, simple broth for a dish that makes a hot and hearty meal for two. Skip the salt duck---chilled duck including the coagulated fat that is overwhelmingly salty. Service, while friendly, is as barebones as the ambience. |
