| Good Chinese food is hard to find in Mission Valley, so we’re grateful for Shanghai, especially when we’re heading for a movie at the Hazard Center multiplex. We come for reasonable versions of dishes familiar from the last decades of Chinese-American restaurants, including sweet-and-sour pork, Mongolian beef and kung pao chicken. We particularly enjoy the reasonably priced house specialty, Mongolian barbecue: You get to pick the meats, veggies and sauces you like and then they’re cooked up for you. The setting is clean and simple, fine for a quick lunch but a bit too basic for dinner. The servers get the job done with a minimum of fuss. |
