Far from both the Atlantic and the Pacific, Chicago still manages to get its fair share of fresh seafood. The showiness of this place reels us in, in large part because Shaw's deals with only top-quality stuff, much of it sustainable. It is in the cooking that the place falls off the boat on occasion. The crab cakes are first-rate, as is the lobster. A net full of fish---salmon, grouper, perch, scallops and shrimp---fill out the extensive menu, along with familiar side dishes. Desserts seem to be an afterthought, though we find the Key lime pie to be quite good. The service has a tendency to go over the top, but it knows what the kitchen is doing. The adjoining lounge is casual and spirited.
