Dining room at Shaw's Crab House, Chicago, ILFar from both the Atlantic and the Pacific, Chicago still manages to get its fair share of fresh seafood. The showiness of this place reels us in, in large part because Shaw's deals with only top-quality stuff, much of it sustainable. It is in the cooking that the place falls off the boat on occasion. The crab cakes are first-rate, as is the lobster. A net full of fish---salmon, grouper, perch, scallops and shrimp---fill out the extensive menu, along with familiar side dishes. Desserts seem to be an afterthought, though we find the Key lime pie to be quite good. The service has a tendency to go over the top, but it knows what the kitchen is doing. The adjoining lounge is casual and spirited.

Best Seafood Restaurant in Chicago
by hexter7 on 07/27/2009

On Saturday, July 25 of 2009 my wife and I dined at Shaw’s Crab House. It was fantastic! We have eaten out at a lot of restaurants, and we can honestly say that Shaw’s still has it going on. It is at the top of our list for consistent, quality seafood and shellfish. The food is always prepared right, with great service, and the dining room is comfortable, where you can relax and enjoy your meal. We started with the one dozen, hand-shucked oyster :) appetizer and their famous jumbo-lump crabmeat crab cake. We followed that with their wonderful lobster bisque and split an order of their steamed Alaskan King Crab legs with a side of melted butter. Next, we ate three delicious soft shell crabs sautéed in lemon, garlic, and butter, with great vegetable sides. For dessert we had key lime pie and Homers Peppermint Ice Cream with hot fudge sauce. Hot coffee drinks and specialty tea topped it all off, and we were very happy with the overall experience. Shaw’s has the seafood dining experience down to a perfect science. We highly recommend it!
