| Shorty’s is a blast from the past in neighborhoods where newness is the norm. This mecca for carnivores is teeming with mouthwatering American specialties that this family has been doing right since 1951: baby-back ribs and chicken, tender and saucy, plus barbecue sandwiches that beat out any south of Kansas City. Some of the waitresses have been at Shorty’s since the ’50s; pray you’re lucky enough to be served by one. These ladies are a wealth of useless Miami trivia, and will gladly reminisce about the days when the original Shorty’s stood tall against a dusty two-lane road, surrounded on all sides by farms, cattle and horses. Expect tattered screens where windows should be, but notice BMW’s where the pickup trucks once parked. Take a number, and wait your turn with the hoards of Shorty’s devotees to squeeze in at a gingham-covered picnic table, drink beer or iced tea by the pitcherful, and eat America’s original fast food off a flimsy paper plate.
