Shvil HaChalav Restaurant Review:
Shvil HaChalav (The Milky Way) is a small, lively spot run by chef and proprietor Shimshon. This nook in the Kerem Ha’Teimanim (Vineyard of the Yemenites) is embellished with pictures of Shimshon’s travels around the world and portraits of his favorite jazz musicians, and guests are serenaded by jazz and classic rock music from his album collection. Fatoot is the menu highlight, a traditional Yemen dish made with lachuch, Yemen bread that has an airy, pancake-like consistency. The lachuch is sautéed with butter, onions, cinnamon, sugar and sea salt for a savory/sweet concoction. Shimshon also serves other Yemen staples such as majadara and okra stew. Breakfast includes two eggs cooked to your liking, a choice of salads from the salad bar, and fresh-squeezed orange juice.
