Sixteen Restaurant Review

: Located on its namesake floor of the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, this über-classy, curvaceous dining room is adorned with a massive, twinkly Swarovski-crystal chandelier, soaring ceilings and a sweeping skyline view. The food, which is as pricey as the setting is posh, proves lovely and intriguingly thematic, courtesy of Thomas Lents, a Joël Robuchon vet. It’s a set-price affair that exudes luxury --- and unabashedly so --- at a time when many fine dining establishments have scaled back. The dishes change with the seasons but may include a restrained crudo of diver scallops atop king crab, sea samphire, citrus and avocado; veal with morels, fiddlehead ferns and sea buckthorn, accented by laurel-elderflower emulsion; and, at meal’s end, caramel bavaroise and carrot cake with a poof of cardamom-cream cheese ice cream that may well bring you to tears. Be sure to check out the sophisticates-only, glass-enclosed wine gallery --- it’s loaded with expense account vintages (only a few selections are accessible to mere mortals). That said, there’s an unexpected sense of whimsy to the list; depending on the time of year, rosés may be featured more prominently than whites. Afterward, do head to Rebar, the swanky mezzanine-level lounge --- or (in summer) The Terrace at Trump --- for a nightcap.
