Slice Pizzeria Restaurant Review: This Uptown eatery sauces, tops and bakes-to-order each pizza slice; whole pies are available, too. With relatively thin crusts, the pizza registers in style somewhere between New York and Chicago, and the toppings range from traditional (pepperoni, Italian sausage, garlic) to moderately gourmet (eggplant, olive pesto, Gorgonzola). As you’re in New Orleans, don’t be surprised by the alligator sausage pie. The vegan slice is topped with iceberg lettuce, summer tomatoes and payloads of basil. In addition to the pizza, there’s a caprese salad and daily specials that could include chilled melon soup, seared grouper and andouille sausage ragoût. If pizza is not on your radar, Slice offers plates to share like meatballs, barbecued shrimp, mussels and more, as well as pastas and generously portioned po' boys. Finish with gelato or, on an especially hot day, try a flavored icicle. Specialty drinks include Cajun iced tea. The limited wine list consists of fewer than a dozen bottles, but every Wednesday bottles are half price. On weekdays from 2 p.m.-5 p.m., Slice has two-for-one slices and discounted wine and beer.
