Smithville Inn Restaurant Review:

Not only is the Smithville Inn historic, so is the restaurant’s chicken potpie. Its flaky crust and the rich velouté beneath it studded with savory chunks of chicken have been nourishing diners since the 1700s, when the original building was a stagecoach stop. Modern times have brought more modern manners, but one would be hard-pressed to find a better adjective than “traditional” to describe this place. Count on good renditions of classics such as French onion soup, roast turkey with cornbread stuffing and prime rib. Order bread pudding for dessert to enjoy the full historical impact. The young chef who runs the kitchen has made sure there are some contemporary dishes in the mix, such as wasabi-crusted ahi and sesame rice noodles accompanied by a deep-green seaweed salad dressed with a spirited sriracha aïoli; and dried fruit-stuffed pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon and served with sautéed spinach and whipped Yukon Gold potatoes. A bonus of dining here is strolling the grounds of the quaint little shopping village that surrounds the lakeside restaurant.
