Restaurateur Gary Lin, who hails from the Chinese province of Fujian across the strait from Taiwan, is behind a pair of fast-concept establishments blending Asian and Southern flavors. Raw materials are carefully chosen, with humanely raised proteins taking center stage. Bread is from H&F Bakery. Customize a fried rice bowl or a platter with a choice of protein, base (steamed or fried rice or mixed dressed greens), sauces and sides. We recommend the platter, and like the salad base with a gentle bath of vinaigrette dressing. Pulled pork topping it was tender and beautifully smoked (although a little salty on the outside meat) and the two sauces (there are four altogether) were fruit-based duck and spicy hot pepper (just tangy). Fresh broccoli with garlic sauce made a good side and the crisp Asian slaw was a standout. But patrons seeking Southern tastes will find mac 'n' cheese and grilled corn as well. For dessert, there are smoothies made with hormone-free milk, local treat King of Pops, or almond butter with sliced bananas and condensed milk syrup. No alcohol.
