'sNice Restaurant Review: This veggie café seems like it was picked up in a West Coast college town and dropped into a former hardware store on Eighth Avenue in the West Village. It’s not only because of the large-portioned meat-free salads and sandwiches on offer, but because of the ambience too: the work of local artists on the walls, bookshelves full of literature, free Wi-Fi and scattered newspapers all make for a decidedly collegiate feel. And even though the Rueben gets the tempeh treatment and the “chicken” potpie wrap doesn’t actually include chicken, carnivores shouldn’t be scared off: the curried cauliflower wrap---loaded with chick peas, brown rice and spiced mango chutney---might make you a believer, too. Large salads and overstuffed veggie (and vegan) sandwiches also stand out on a menu that’s scrawled on a large chalkboard above the counter. |
