SOCIAL Costa Mesa Restaurant Review

: You won’t find this happening Costa Mesa restaurant among the other hipster-fueled eateries along 17th Street --- it’s a couple blocks north and it anchors an otherwise nondescript strip mall. However, it captures that same trendy vibe, with light bulb-studded signs, rustic woods and vintage movies playing on TVs perched above the bar. The New American fare is filtered through Southern-tinged influences, as seen in share plates such as the chicken and waffles with bourbon sugar cane syrup or wood-fired oysters with caraway and pressed egg yolk. Other beguiling options like the Wagyu beef tartare with salt and vinegar chips or the Spanish octopus with chorizo, fingerling potatoes and chicharrones coax complex flavors that are complementary. Desserts are highlighted by the Tahitian vanilla panna cotta. The bar program, featuring inventive cocktails dispensed on tap and crafted with house-made syrups, is every bit an equal to the food. Lunchtime offers tacos, burgers and other unfussy, easygoing fare, while weekend warriors can swing by to indulge in classic brunch offerings and craft coffee creations such as the Coco Beware, a cold brew concoction with fresh coconut water, coconut milk and house coconut syrup.
