 Duck down the narrow alleyway that leads to Sociale from Sacramento Street. A charming courtyard, dotted with tables and heat lamps, fronts the sunshine yellow dining room. Low ceilings, black and white photographs, and a petite bar complete the comfortable yet sophisticated atmosphere. Professional waiters bustle around bringing well-chosen bottles of wine and starters like smoky ham and eggplant soup, and salty olives that are plumped with cheese, then quickly deep fried. Move on to tender short ribs atop polenta and peas, chicken cooked under a brick, or any number of pastas. Leave room for the honey donuts served with vanilla bean gelato.
