Diminutive SoHo eatery Sogo NY shimmies with Asian chic: soft purple and pink lights illuminate the room from behind mini bamboo umbrellas, while a team of sushi chefs slice, dice and chop some of the freshest tasting fish this side of Houston Street. With an array of traditional sushi offerings, Sogo NY stands out for its unique creations: the alligator roll (shrimp tempura, mayonnaise and tobiko topped with eel), the honey nuts roll (roasted honey nuts, avocado and cucumber), and the spicy dynamite roll (tuna, salmon and yellowtail, topped with eel, crab meat and tempura flakes) are sure winners. For the even more culinary adventurous, the tuna tortilla pizza---fresh tuna, scallion and masago (caviar), drizzled with a creamy spicy sauce, atop a slightly fried tortilla---will instantly reward your taste buds. So will the handful of saké-concocted cocktails. The mixture of cucumber, melon liqueur and Asian pear saké is potent and delicious.
