| San Rafael native Sol Hernandez opened her tiny café, now affectionately called “the little place” by regulars, to offer the food of her Puerto Rican-born father---Puerto Rican criolla cooking. The menu is small, reasonably priced and offers everything from chicken with beans and rice to vegan selections. Try the pollo al horno, your choice of one-to-three pieces of boneless, free-range chicken thighs marinated in garlic and oregano, baked, then served with generous portions of rice, red beans and olive, organic salad and two pieces of either fried green or yellow plantains. Prices change depending on the amount of chicken. Shrimp creole is another flavorful choice, as are the Cuban or steak sandwiches. We also recommend the vegan coconut pudding with cinnamon. |
