With its accessible pricing and reliably pleasing menu, this very unpretentious bistro attracts a loyal clientele from the country club set in the east valley. Executive chef and co-owner Francisco Solano understands his customers and makes sure to provide dishes that won't startle them, but he also adds enough spin to make things interesting for the more adventurous. He has a delicate and subtle way with flavors and textures; the house salad mixes the tender sweetness of blueberries with tart, crisp green apple wedges, crunchy glazed walnuts and the bite of feta cheese, all dressed with a blueberry vinaigrette. The menu changes seasonally; favorite appetizers for summer are the gazpacho cocktail, a raspberry and Brie quesadilla, or the crab cakes. The pecan-crusted sand dabs, beef short ribs, and chicken breast stuffed with artichoke hearts, spinach, mushrooms and mozzarella with a tomato basil sauce lead a worthy pack of entrées. For summer, Solano has a special prix-fixe menu, which he changes weekly.
