Solano's Bistro Restaurant Review

: Solano’s Bistro may now have a coveted address in Old Town La Quinta, and a lofty space about three times the size of its former location, but chef/partner Francisco Solano’s talents have not waivered through the transition. Design-wise, this incarnation looks more like a gallery than a restaurant, with works from local artists on display. Lunch is simple, with a selection of soup, sandwiches, salads and a particularly good quinoa-stuffed acorn squash garnished with chopped basil, pine nuts and golden raisins. An array of small shareable plates highlights the evening menu, such as the baked Brie sweetened with brown sugar and raspberries, and presented in an artisan loaf of bread. Pecan-crusted sand dabs are draped in Chardonnay butter sauce, while additional entrées include beef short ribs, filet mignon and lobster ravioli. A selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes is also available. The wine list is limited to mostly domestic vintages, with an occasional international pour, but the wine has been chosen as a complement to what chef Solano is preparing behind the kitchen door.
