| When Miss Millie's, a beloved brunch spot, closed its San Francisco location, fans were bereft. Happily, the owners only relocated their restaurant to Oakland's College Avenue, and gave it a different name. Patrons queue up for tall stacks of signature lemon-ricotta pancakes or scrambles loaded with goat cheese and spinach. Somerset also serves lunch and dinner---mostly comfort classics such as meatloaf, chicken potpies and hearty beef stews. Macaroni and cheese, while seriously rich, has good cheese flavor. More restraint is shown in first courses, which include a pear and Roquefort salad and a simple goat-cheese soufflé. |
