Sonoma-Meritage Martini/Oyster Bar & Grille Restaurant Review: Southern French and Northern Italian cuisine is showcased through fresh seafood selections in this Sonoma hot spot, just steps off the plaza. A favorite of locals, many local winemakers can often be found sharing oysters-on-the-half shell and a martini at the bar. The warm earth tones of the interior, illuminated by hand-blown glass chandeliers from local artisans, give the impression of gliding down a Venetian canal. Many vegetarian and low-fat options are offered in this health-conscious neighborhood, but don't discount the incredibly rich bouillabaisse of tiger prawns, Manila clams, calamari and the day's fresh catch. Carnivores will be pleased with the Durham ranch rib-eye, free-range veal chop, or venison loin with lamb chops served over duchess potatoes and an elegant pomegranate glaze. Put your trust in chef Carlo Cavallo with his five-course prix-fixe and add wine pairings for a nominal charge. An extensive wine list showcases Sonoma-made wines, but the occasional cult European favorite is also available.
