| Offering second-floor views of the industrial riverfront (like trucks rumbling down South 7th Street past the Nooter plant), this family-run restaurant makes up for the streetscape with a cozier interior. Soulard's serves typical St. Louis appetizers, such as flash-fried spinach and toasted ravioli, and entrées such as peppered Black Angus filet and pan-roasted chicken breast. But there’s also a slight Southern flavor to Creole-marinated calamari, Cajun-spiced salmon and blackened grouper. The most beloved dish on the menu --- and rightly so --- is the fruit-laden bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Unlike the neighboring drinking establishments, Soulard’s doesn’t attract a boisterous nighttime crowd, making its bar popular with nearby residents. |
