South Restaurant Review

: Lots of buzz and no reservations (except for parties of nine-plus) make this spot hot, although the wait for a table can be one or two hours. Décor is “modern meets steam punk” with dozens of pendant lights hanging from the ceiling like streamers. A large mirror frames the bar and, in a flourish of white paint, announces the specialty drinks of the month. Order cocktails there, and let the eye candy keep you occupied. For starters, try the roasted tomato and kale soup. Entrée standouts have included a heavily spiced vegetable risotto with quinoa, wild rice, cilantro ginger almond pesto, amaranth and more. Pork picatta was served with a wild mushroom and leek risotto, arugula, caramelized lemon, white wine, thyme and capers. There's a full bar specializing in gin drinks, which include Barcelona-style gin and tonics, and an interesting and inviting Champagnes list. A brunch menu offers another option to check out South. Service is friendly and efficient.
