There’s a lot to like about the menu at this all-American restaurant on the south branch of the Chicago River. Skewing toward comfort food, it dishes up everything from Yukon Gold potato soup to braised short ribs with gremolata, lamb shank and a Berkshire pork chop. More often than not, the dishes deliver exactly what you’d expect, and that’s a relief. The tavern-like space---with its dark wood and old-timey pictures---is always a pleasant place to be. Service is efficient and knowledgeable. There’s a short wine list, and it works with the menu. The lunch menu mirrors dinner offerings with the addition of some lighter fare. Needless to say given its location, this is a good place to keep in mind when going to the theater.
