THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Soviet Canteen Restaurant Review:

Here we have an engagingly eccentric Russian basement down in World’s End that takes its interior design cue from early 1970s Muscovite milk bar chic, complete with garish soft furnishings and metal-top table functionalism, pop prints of Lenin and a chandelier made up of re-cycled kitchen utensils. It’s comfortable enough though, and thankfully there’s enough content behind the style. Chef Mike Scutar’s cooking is both revelation and revolution: a decadent helping of zakuski (smoked salmon and chive cream, quail eggs and Oscietra caviar with smoked sturgeon, served with a shot of vodka, natch); Georgian roast wild pigeon and, but of course comrade, beef stroganoff (’served with chipski’). Wash it all down with a Molotov cocktail or a Siberian sling. Set-course dinner 6.30pm-8pm £12.50, 3 courses £15.50, both include a glass of house wine.
