Spa Cafe Restaurant Review: Bacara Resort & Spa executive chef David Reardon puts together seasonal menus to match the sun-kissed surroundings at the Spa Cafe. High-beamed, open ceilings create an airy feel indoors, while the patio features tables shaded by large umbrellas. Chef Reardon’s Asian-inspired food is prepared with good health in mind. But you won't find any tofu burgers or lentils here; the dishes are flavorful and complex. At breakfast, go for the local Cambridge House smoked salmon in an omelet or served with a bagel and all the traditional accompaniments. Starters at lunch include ahi tartare in a soy-ginger marinade, and the Bacara Spa salad with avocado, grilled marinated vegetables and organic greens. Rounding out the menu are entrées such as the free-range turkey sandwich with honey Dijon spread, and a vegan chocolate cake for dessert. California wines are featured on the small wine list, and there are also specialty cocktails and several beers available. If you're looking for something more healthful, opt for the fresh fruit and vegetable juices or a shot of wheat grass. In addition, guests can build their own smoothie from a selection of fruits and supplements.
