The name indicates the concept behind this steak and seafood restaurant: wood-fire cooking seasons everything with a light wood scent. The fish is reliably moist, but flaky. Prime steaks are tender, juicy and cooked to order. The tomato broth with sweet garlic is a nice treatment for the fish of the day, as is the Peruvian-style, with its shiitake mushrooms and green onions. Composed dishes like the crab and spinach dip appetizer, the lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, or the seafood chili can be on the strong side. The flavors aren’t bad, but they do overwhelm the seafood. Wines can be seen chilling in their glass-walled storage area, and wines by the glass are kept fresh through a Cruvinet system. The décor is more Asian than anything else, with dried branches in pots, plus reclaimed wood on the floors, bar top and communal tabletop. Diners have a view of the action in the kitchen along the hot line and into the chilled fish-cutting room. Dessert wines and coffee drinks are available to wash down fresh beignets, mini caramel apples and a flourless chocolate cake with a crispy hazelnut crust.
