THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Spice Asian Bistro Restaurant Review:

Spice is the younger sibling of Mon’s Thai in Alamo Heights, but it's departed from big sister’s generic Asian décor to focus on gallery-like spaces showcasing (mostly indifferent) art. The menu has been slicked up somewhat, too, and includes exotic drinks that stop just short of itty-bitty umbrellas. (We even admit to liking some of them.) But if the setting seems to emphasize splash over substance, note that, in addition to obligatory sushi and ubiquitous Chinese, the menu does offer crunchy soft shell crab and hamachi jaw with eel sauce. The expected Thai soups (tom yum) and salads (yum wun sun) appear---but so do rice soup with fresh ginger and garlic and an apple salad with chicken and tamarind. Seafood steamed in a foil wrap, chicken stir-fried with coconut milk and cabbage and a gaggle of “gang” curries such gang masaman round out the menu. Don’t hesitate to ask for extra heat. Additionally, don’t fail to order the warm, black rice pudding for dessert.
