Owners of this grocery and eatery in the eclectic neighborhood of Mt. Adams transformed a dark former bar into a modern space with exposed brick and recycled barn wood. It's now a light-filled gathering spot where patrons can buy farm-fresh eggs to take home or sit down for a bowl of steamed mussels or matzoh ball soup. Sprout features locally made, fresh ingredients --- from the seasonal produce on its market shelves to the changing menu that includes risotto with vegetables, and the breads and sauces. Selections also range from the house-smoked steelhead trout sandwich with cilantro on a challah bun with a side of kimchi, to the house-made fettuccine with the option of adding pork. Sprout offers organic wines and more than a dozen local craft beers on tap. Save room for bread pudding or ice cream, like coffee stout and lemon goat cheese with a red wine reduction.
