The restaurant is striking, with some rooms sparsely decorated, others outfitted lavishly, with wood carvings, tapestries and African art. The signature dish is a rich, slow-simmered, beautifully seasoned curry that comes in several versions, with a variety of side dishes. The rest of the menu is contemporary Californian, with a respectful bow to Mediterranean influences. Order the foie gras du jour as an appetizer and if you’re passing on the curry try the bouillabaisse Burmese (mixed seafood with an Asian coconut broth and bok choy) or the rack of lamb with Moroccan spice cassoulet and cinnamon carrots. The wine list is especially strong in its Californian and Italian selections.
