You must drive across an old bridge and into a quiet residential neighborhood to reach Stanley & Seafort’s Steak, Chop & Fish House. The reward is a striking view from the hillcrest overlooking downtown Tacoma and the busy Commencement Bay harbor. The restaurant takes full advantage of its panoramic location with a solid wall of windows framing the scene. Unfortunately, the food and service don't keep pace with the mood. Owned by Restaurants Unlimited, Inc., the same Seattle-based chain behind Palomino and Palisades, the restaurant has a typical corporate-designed menu with few surprises or innovation. While it's hard to go wrong with the brandy-peppercorn steak or the house-special tower of prawns---coconut-crusted, roasted with garlic butter, and chilled---the service is too casual and the wine list too pedestrian for a restaurant positioning itself in the fine-dining category. However, if you're in Tacoma, this is one of your better dining options.
