Steel Restaurant & Lounge Restaurant Review: A cascading water wall and a dynamic modern décor that wraps around a sushi bar and a separate drinks bar create an ideal date spot. Hardwood floors and earth-toned tiles support a classy design, although they also encourage a high noise level if the restaurant is full. Various bento boxes are among the lunch offerings. The sea salt-and-chili pepper calamari is a nice tangle of fried, crisp calamari --- not at all greasy --- with two sauces, all presented in a formal Asian-influenced manner (beware of the quite-hot honey chili paste). Try the small plates, starting with the sushi. The seaweed/cucumber salad dressed in sesame oil and seeds is plenty to share, and its crisp, healthy taste is a fine companion for the tuna or beef cooked on Japanese hot rocks at the table, a perfect light supper. Vietnamese "shaken beef" presents very tender cubed tenderloin on greens with onions and cherry tomatoes. For dessert, go with the Vietnamese beignets, dusted in cinnamon and presented with a salted caramel sauce for dipping. The wine list doesn’t serve as a good companion for this food, and the red wines are served way too warm. We suggest a saké or a beer instead.
