 The rolling hills of rural Warren is the perfect setting for the Stone House, a restaurant hewn in the California Craftsman style. A captivating view of the great outdoors has to compete with an equally appealing indoor ambience. The Stone House is a light-filled, open space accented with rough sand-colored cliff stone walls, bluestone slate in the entry and massive square steel chandeliers with dozens of white “candles” at the skylight and a glassed-in 2,500-bottle wine room above the open kitchen. Surrounded by all this beauty one might forget the food if it weren’t so good. When the weather’s fair, start with drinks out on the patio at the water table. Then start with roasted baby beet and anise blood oranges served with petite greens. Ponder ordering an entrée of grilled double-cut pork chop with maple-glazed sweet jewel potatoes, Brussels sprouts and spiced apple compote made with organic agave nectar. Seafood is prepared skillfully, most notably, the grilled North Atlantic salmon served dramatically with long-stem artichokes, oven-roasted tomatoes, asparagus, creamy potatoes and capers. Desserts include irresistible brownie s’mores made with homemade marshmallow and orange ricotta cheesecake with huckleberry Cabernet reduction sauce.
