Stoney Creek on the ground floor of another Broadway store front offers a low-key, adult environment, along with highly inventive food. A banquette of black booths set a handsome tone for this small space with a wooden bar opposite. Jazz playing softly in the background completes the relaxed feeling inside. The seasonal menu offers the best from local organic farms and the food is transformed with New York City sophistication at country prices. Begin with the appealing homemade wild mushroom ravioli in chive cream. Definitely order the smoked pheasant pie in a cornmeal crust. This huge piece was filled not only with moist pheasant but also sweet potato, greens and pomegranate seeds for an unusual crunch. We also like the crispy bow ties with portobello mushrooms, Swiss chard and garbanzo beans. The bow ties are cooked in water and then sautéed in oil ’til crispy, which adds a lovely crunch to the dish. One side dish should be tried, the rosemary couscous, which is laced with pungent rosemary. The homemade cinnamon ice cream, with an intense cinnamon flavor, is doused with chocolate, a most satisfying end to a satisfying dining experience.
