 Stout Restaurant Review: Upscale burgers and rarer craft beers are the star attractions at this stylish Cahuenga Corridor haunt. Locals stop by for lunch, a rocking after-work happy hour crowd basks in the sunset glow of sidewalk tables (or that of an amber stout), and a gregarious dinner set evolves into a hopping late-night club scene. Designed by Spacecraft’s Kristofer Keith, the semicircular bar of copper and exposed brick takes center stage, surrounded by sleek lacquered wood tables, brick and polished cement. It’s chic but casual, and the menu’s the same way. Burgers-only seems limiting, but the incarnations are far-ranging. Our favorite is the eponymous Stout burger that combines blue cheese, Gruyère, rosemary bacon and horseradish cream; it pairs ideally with Union Jack stout. The IOS organic chicken burger, laden with tzatziki, eggplant spread and feta, is a jazzy blend of Greek flavors. While we don’t necessarily recommend it, you can simply drink your meal from some of the 30 beers on tap, ranging from delicate, aromatic wheat ales like Blanche de Bruxelles to rich, sensuous brews including Black Phoenix coffee-chipotle stout. The staff knows its beer here. The brews aren’t cheap, but $5 happy hour burgers, weekdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., are indeed a bargain.
