Strip House may now refer to steak but bordello and burlesque influences recall its bygone era.

Dining room at Strip House, New York, NYThough the Strip House is most definitely a serious restaurant, it manages to have a sense of humor. Everything here screams fun, from the burlesque style logo and bordello red décor to the opera photos on the wall that hark back to the days when the space was home to Asti, an opera-themed Italian place. One of the more successful attempts at reinventing the New York steakhouse is happening in the kitchen. The menu offers plenty of broiled beef, be it the signature New York strip, porterhouse or filet. More refined appetizers like New England sea scallops with edamame succotash, black truffle butter and a corn broth; and the vine ripened tomatoes and red onion with sliced cucumber, sweet basil, and a delicate tomato water vinaigrette lend elegance to the meal, as do the sides like creamed corn with pancetta.

Very disapointed

In looking for a wonderful posh restaurant to take my lovely wife on Christmas Eve, I researched many places and decided on the Strip House in NYC. I should have kept on looking...

The cocktails were good. Best Absolute Gimlet I had in a long time. There ends the positives.

The waiter was somewhat rude. We asked not to be rushed and stated that we have to work with his schedule and not ours. I had the Oysters for an app...they came out somewhat room temperature and seemed like they were "just" put on ice. My wife had the scallops. They had very little taste and were definitely skate. Sauce was OK.

We order the so called famous Goose Fat Potatoes and were amazed how small the portion was. Take a small custard cup, pack it, turn it upside down and there it was...about 4 bites.

The bacon was good...wish I ordered more.

I ordered the 2 lbs lobster after asking how they were doing today. Our server noted that I should go with the 3lbs if I wanted a really good meal. So I did. The lobster was DEFINITELY NOT a 3 lbs lobster!!!! There were some extra pieces on the side of the plate that looked like they came from another person plate who could not finish. My wife had the Porterhouse. She liked it but was had a lot of gristle. About half of the steak was gristle.

Skipped dessert...was thoroughly pissed. Will try Delmonico's next time.

We go out on special occasions and do not mind the cost of the meal as long as it is something to remember.
