THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Surin of Thailand Restaurant Review:

Chef Surin Techarukpong has hit on a good formula for presenting Thai food, both in Atlanta and in Birmingham. Managing partner Peter Akaraskul handles this new location, his fifth between the two cities. The dishes may not strike the purist as totally authentic, and heat levels are moderated for American palates, but the flavors are awesome tasty. Start with sushi, some of which are specials to this organization. Harry’s Special enfolds baked scallop and masago in seaweed, for instance, making a delicious combination that will delight anyone skittish about raw fish. Ka Proud Lamb presents char-grilled lamb chops in a flavorful sauce, a great blending of two cuisines. The classic Thai noodle dishes are here, and the Chicken Noodle Bowl is a special dish at this location only. It stacks rice noodles with grilled chicken breast, bean spouts and romaine. Other dishes get closer to authentic fare, larb and nam-sod, for instance, and curries are spot on. The shrimp in hot green curry sauce and the roasted duck in red curry sauce hit their respective targets. The restaurants’ wine lists sorely need more wines that go with this food. Hotness levels are indicated by number of chilies, but three is still quite moderate. The kitchen happily adjusts heat levels according to a patron’s wishes.
