THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sushi Ryo Restaurant Review:

Ryo is one of those sushi bars that's easily overlooked, as most Angelenos are busy seeking out either pedestrian neighborhood eateries specializing in cut-rate California rolls or, at the other extreme, high-end celebrity hangouts like Matsuhisa. This is a place for serious sushi lovers who care about value yet appreciate a commitment to quality and freshness. Chef-owner Junichi Shiode serves with pride items such as velvety ankimo (monkfish liver) in ponzu sauce, ultra-tender octopus sushi, a soupy but delightful seaweed salad, fresh-as-can-be uni, assertive sardines and kohada, succulent seared toro, refreshing radish and eggplant sushi, and wonderful sea eel tempura. The place is not fancy, but a big aqua-toned abstract mural and some traditional art dress up the tiny mini-mall space, and the service is gracious.
