Sushi on Sunset East/West Fusion occupies the site of the short-lived Empress and the original Sushi on Sunset, a storied establishment with a history that spanned more than two decades. This incarnation takes up the torch by offering a hip scene and a menu of "Asian Comfort Food" courtesy of culinary director Rod Aglibot (Yi Cuisine, Koi) and master sushi chef Tetsuro Ahn. Dishes include lemon grass skewered salmon drizzled with plum sauce and red rice, as well as sushi rolls like the S.O.S. (Sushi on Sunset), composed of lobster, freshwater eel and avocado mixed with smelt egg mayonnaise and tama miso that is then baked and laid on top of sushi rice covered with green tea miso, spicy eel sauce and tobiko. Ahn also offers a signature special known as “Chef Tetsu’s Matsuri”---four selections chosen daily by the chef. The names of the specialty cocktails and some menu items pay tribute to the Sunset Strip’s glory days as a rock music mecca.
