Swagat Restaurant Review: On a busy corner in Northwest Portland, this longstanding Indian restaurant offers a serene and comfortable welcome---Swagat means "welcome" in Hindi. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet is popular with workers in the area, and vegetarians have many choices here. The Madras comfort cuisine features dosas---large crêpes draping over the plate, stuffed with such savory ingredients as vegetable curry. We are fans of the authentic tandoori dishes, deep golden-red in color. Every entrée can be ordered as part of a “thali dinner,” which turns it into a complete meal with soup, rice, naan, vegetable curry, lentil dal, raita, and the daily dessert. Wash everything down with a bottle of native Kingfisher beer, or a glass of “lotus milk,” a blend of chai, 151 rum, frangelico and Irish crème---served flaming, of course.
