| Nothing could be more surprising than driving across the agricultural fields of this Portland suburb to find yourself in a spot that seems right out of the Ginza in Tokyo. This restaurant's very name means "fresh seasonal saké pub” and Syun Izakaya carries a heady variety of the rice wine. The comfortable place is housed in the basement of a former turn-of-the-century town library. The appetizers and sushi and sashimi are notable. There are plenty of hot dishes as well, starting with the clams steamed in saké. We also recommend the tempura, with a batter as delicate as lace filigree. |
