| The lengthy menu may seem daunting at this authentic Japanese eatery, located in the basement of a former turn-of-the-century town library in a Portland suburb, but a solicitous staff is available for guidance. Diners are encouraged to order "Japanese style," as in throughout the meal, rather than in an all-at-the-beginning manner. For the best experience, sample the sushi and sashimi, and order several small plates from the pub menu, including the asparagus, bacon and clams steamed in saké. We also recommend the halibut tempura, with a batter as delicate as lace filigree, and anything prepared with the Japanese kabocha pumpkin. There’s a heady variety of rice wine, including tasting flights. |
