The décor at this taqueria is deceptively simple: linoleum and Formica with charming cultural touches such as piñatas and serapes. Yet the menu here is extensive and complicated---built upon a base of excellent masa tortillas, and everything here is worth trying once. Hardliners will enjoy the authentic burritos, enchiladas, chile rellenos and $1.25 tacos. More adventuresome diners can try a number of interesting dishes from tripe with pig’s foot to a tongue taco. The portions are ample, the prices quite affordable and the staff warm. Tacos y Mariscos Chavez is the pinnacle of taqueria dining.
