Tahiti Nui Restaurant Review: Old-fashioned Polynesian charm sets this place apart. The Nui, as it's known locally, in its funky building definitely has character written all over it, connecting with a time when Hanalei was much more laid-back than today. From its broad, shady porch to its rattan bar, it's campy in the cool way that comes from being totally authentic, a trait that saw it featured in the movie “The Descendants.” The fare is basically surf ‘n’ turf. Kauai prawns with macadamia honey sauce are especially noteworthy, while the Tahitian Poisson Cru is an excellent starter. The bar scene, with its lethal mai tais and local clientele, is usually hopping. Live entertainment and karaoke keep things lively.
