 Tamarind of London Restaurant Review: Somewhat hidden away in the confines of Newport Beach’s trendy Crystal Cove Promenade, this British import has a casual ambience befitting a venue within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean. Festive reds, soothing earth tones and geometric adornments create a groovy late mid-century modern vibe, while the tandoori ovens that front the massive open kitchen hint at the restaurant’s dedication to Indian cuisine. The menu features interpretations of classic Indian fare, including such appetizers as crispy paneer and chicken tikka, as well as mains like butter chicken, vegetable kadhi and tandoori shrimp. Even more intriguing are the items that some may consider surprising if not unorthodox: steamed PEI mussels served with coconut milk and toasted coriander; goat cheese and scallion naan; and tandoori New York steak kebab or piquant ghost chili beef vindaloo. Dessert highlights include a molten chocolate cake infused with seven different spices and accompanied by ginger gelato. A solid wine list and elegant cocktails are available. |
