 Tamarindo is a far cry from the taco trucks of the East Bay --- the Mexican food served here is as elegant and refined as the space the restaurant occupies. The room is dominated by exposed brick walls and large picture windows; at night, it is softly candlelit. Diners can choose from an array of small plates or order larger entrée-style dishes from a frequently changing menu. Ceviche is a standout: whitefish dressed simply with lime juice, cilantro and crushed coriander seeds, topped with ripe avocado. If Tamarindo’s mole is on the dinner menu, order it --- but also keep an eye out for slow-cooked pork or stuffed poblano chilies. Vegetables are mostly local and organic, and meat is sourced from Niman Ranch. The small wine list, including selections from Navarro Vineyard in Anderson Valley, complements the food. A full tequila bar ups the alcohol ante.
