Modern décor and a clubby bar and lounge area make this a popular choice with the midtown crowd. But a traditional menu and quality ingredients mean it’s a good bet for a solid Japanese meal. The extensive menu features both traditional and imaginative sushi choices, as well as dozens of unusual appetizers and the requisite tempura, udon and bento boxes. Sushi is clearly the main draw: there is a wide selection of nigiri, hand rolls and specialty rolls, and an entire sub-menu of spicy rolls. The Yellow Submarine features shrimp, unagi and soft shell crab in a soy wrapper with garlic sauce, while the Sacramento Roll has unagi, crab, crushed macadamia nuts and smoked salmon. Try one of the many Japanese beers, saké, plum wine or traditional scallop or oyster shooter --- complete with hot sauce, tobiko and quail egg.
