THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Taste of Afrika Restaurant Review:
In the space where Winnies Caribbean used to be, this extremely casual eatery stars a chef who stirs his bubbling pots with one hand while conversing on the phone and chatting to customers. The cash-register area and the kitchen meld together in one informal workspace. Bright and cheery with much the same Caribbean feel as the sites earlier Caribbean occupant, Taste of Afrika offers a menu that is whimsical at best. You can start with a navy bean accra with house sauce, and follow that with coleslaw and jerk chicken, then end with a slab of homemade cake (recently, coconut layer cake). On the other hand, you may select a Philly steak sub, bologna sandwich, or a veggie burger if you dont want to tuck into an egg and cheese sandwich, real breakfast fare. Or you can save yourself for the African delicacy, the peanut maffle with lamb or chicken. This turns out to be a stew with a lamb shank nestled in a thick peanut sauce---delicious.
